Food chains and Webs

Last week in my Whangara class we took a look at food chains and webs. We had a look at producers and consumers. We also took a look at how it could affect us and other consumers if one of our food sources disappeared. We made slides on all of these things take a look at mine.

Term 4 Summary

This term has been a blast! We have been surfing, competing in athletics, gone to intermediate open days,  kapa haka,  just dance, year six item and we are about to start swimming!  I have really enjoyed my final term at Wainui. There has been one thing that I have enjoyed a little above others which was our inquiry topic - Culture city.

I have enjoyed finding out lots of interesting facts. We are going to turn all of our information into a book. We had to find out about each cultures Drama, Dance, Visual arts and Music. I have written a blogpost on Kapa Haka. We competed in ball throw, sprints, long jump and  high jump for athletics. It was really fun doing just dance in the mornings, we danced to lots of different songs from different cultures with actions. Year sixes get to go surfing every friday morning if they would like to. We  even got to have a fun day out at our chosen intermediates.

We are creating a dish from a culture to bring in for a shared morning tea. I am making something from South America! We got up to lots of other cool things this term but these were my highlights. I am super excited for next year. :)

Turanganui Kapa Haka Festival

Kia ora, yesterday ( the 20th of November) our school was lucky enough to head to the Turanganui Kapa Haka festival. It was held at the Gisborne A & P showgrounds. The girls had to put on our dresses, get our Moko kauae done and apply black lipstick before we were able to leave. We had to be careful that nothing smudged while we were eating and drinking.

Girls poi
As we walked onto the stage the crowd went wild and cameras flashed. Hunter (our kaea) started our pepeha. Then Haramai a paoa. After we sang and did our actions to Ka pioioi. Then it was time for the poi the moment I had most been looking forward to. So much time and effort had gone into this and it was finally my time to shine. "poi kamau" Yelled Matiria. In time with everyone else I pulled out my poi. Then she called Purianei toru wha. We began swinging our poi. As we finished I beamed with pride I had done it!

We kept progressing through our bracket. Utaina, Ka mate (haka), Wainui e and to finish E honore. All up our time on stage lasted around fifteen minutes. Although we weren't on for very long it felt like ages. Over all I would give the experience a five out of five stars. I really enjoyed myself. I wonder if my intermediate will  have a Kapa Haka group.

Duolingo

Hola, I have been learning Spanish on a website called Duolingo. I have been doing it for around two weeks. It is so much fun. I decided to learn Spanish so that I could have some conversations with my friend Josefa, who is Spanish. As you get better you are put in different leagues. I am currently in the silver league. I would definitely recommend trying Duolingo!

Speeches

This week in MLH our focus is speeches. All of our quick writes and writing workshops are on them. I am really enjoying writing mine. Everyone's speeches this year have to be about or relate to Hauora. I am doing mine on plastic. That relates to Hauora because it relates to the health and wellbeing of our planet. Here is what I have completed so far. (it needs quite a bit of editing) :)
